Properties of vitamins A & E

Vitamin A acts, at the skin level, through various mechanisms, first of all that of influencing the transcription of DNA, stimulating the expression of some specific enzymes, some of which have the function of improving skin thickness, thus decreasing the depth of the wrinkle. Its action determines a proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and increases the production of Glucosaminoglycans, molecules capable of binding water, improving skin hydration. At the level of the dermis, Vitamin A acts by determining an increase in collagen production, with a consequent improvement of the support structure that contributes to giving tone and elasticity to the skin. Vitamin E has a high antioxidant activity, as it is capable of neutralizing the reactivity of free radicals, blocking the cascade of events that determine the oxidative stress responsible for cell damage.
