Whether it is hospital environments, schools, kindergartens or gyms, the disinfection, sanitization and cleansing of surfaces is central in the professional field. It is important to make a clarification here: products that boast a bactericidal, fungicidal, virucidal disinfectant action or any other action aimed at destroying, eliminating or rendering microorganisms harmless through chemical action, fall into two distinct regulatory processes: that of Medical-Surgical Devices (PMC) and biocides. These products, before being placed on the market, must be previously evaluated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and authorized by the Competent Authorities of the EU member states (for Italy the Ministry of Health) under the aegis of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The various disinfection products that can boast properties against microorganisms are different from detergents and sanitizers with which, therefore, they should not be confused. For the latter, which cannot boast a disinfectant action, no authorization is foreseen even if they must comply with the legislation on detergents (sanitizers for environments).
