Baby

A newborn is a child in the period of life immediately following birth, conventionally defined as up to 28 days of life (about 4 weeks). This term applies to both humans and the young of other species, indicating the first stage of life.

• Duration: From birth to the first 28 days of life.
• Subsequent Stages: After the neonatal period, the child becomes an "infant" (from the fourth week to the first year of life).
• Adaptation to Extrauterine Life: During these first weeks, the newborn goes through a period of adaptation to life outside the mother's womb, with normal physiological changes.

• Full-Term Newborn: Born between the 37th and 42nd week of pregnancy.
• Preterm Newborn: Born before the 37th week of pregnancy, with possible immature organs.
• Post-term newborn: Born after the 42nd week of pregnancy.
