Warranty Extensions

Warranty extensions are additional commercial contracts that extend the protection of a product beyond the two-year legal warranty provided for consumers. They serve to cover the costs of repair or replacement in the event of mechanical, electrical, or electronic failures.

• From the manufacturer: Offered directly by the brand (e.g., AppleCare, car brands, or large appliances). Often includes official assistance and original spare parts.
• From the retailer/Third party: Insurance policies sold by electronics chains or specialized portals (e.g., Garanzia3, Estendo).
• Included with credit cards: Some payment services or premium cards extend the warranty free of charge if the item is purchased with the card.

• Typically included: Manufacturing defects, burned electronic components, motor or logic board failure, costs of spare parts and labor.
• Typically excluded: Accidental damage (falls, spilled liquids), normal wear and tear (batteries, tires), cosmetic damage (scratches, rust), and routine maintenance.

• Value of the asset: It's worthwhile for expensive products (large appliances, cars, OLED TVs) where the cost of a single replacement part would exceed the price of the policy.
• Depreciation clause: Many third-party policies don't reimburse the full value of products that are beyond repair, but apply an annual depreciation (e.g., -10% or -20% per year from the date of purchase).
• Excess: Always check whether there's a fixed cost to be paid by the user for each repair or technician call.
